Connect 53212 is a neighborhood-based outreach program connecting residents through walking, biking and busing.
Program benefits including improved resident health, increased neighborhood safety, civic engagement of residents, supported local economy, and better air quality. The proven success of the program is attributed to multiple factors including a focus on all transportation trips, collaborating with additional neighborhood-based organizations, and extensive resident engagement.
First, events and classes are organized to create an atmosphere supportive of walking and biking. Then, households are mailed an order form to request free resources like a neighborhood map, events calendar, bus route information, and safety materials. Once the order form is received, a customized toolkit is assembled and delivered by bike to residents’ doorsteps.
